Save Water (and Money) By Working with the SNWA!

Help the SNWA Conserve Water By Converting Your Lawn

As Lake Mead continues to shrink, using water wisely is crucial in Las Vegas. One smart move is to turn your lawn into a desert garden—it saves water and will save you money, not only because of lower water bills, the decreased amount of maintenance for desert landscape, and the reduced chance for water waste fees. The Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) will pay you to make this change, giving property owners a good reason to switch.

Through the SNWA program, property owners can get $3 for each square foot of grass removed, up to 10,000 square feet. If your area is larger, the rate drops to $1.50 per square foot. This offer applies to homes, businesses, homeowners' associations (HOAs), and multi-family properties. Additionally, for property owners in Henderson, the City of Henderson is offering an additional rebate of up to $575 for converting at least 400 square feet of functional turf. This program follows the same guidelines as the SNWA program.

Whether you do it yourself or hire help, you need to follow the rules to qualify for the rebate. The SNWA website, found here, is a helpful guide, offering step-by-step instructions on the conversion process. It also has tips on choosing water-efficient plants and finding contractors who know about water-smart landscaping. If you're interested in taking advantage of this opportunity, you can start the process online. The application for homeowners can be found here. Explore the SNWA website to fully understand the program and its benefits. This will help make your transition to a more water-conscious landscape smooth, successful, and just a bit cheaper!
