Labor Day, celebrated on the first Monday of September, is more than just a long weekend or the unofficial end of summer. It’s a day dedicated to recognizing the hard work, dedication, and contributions of American workers. Labor Day has its roots in the labor movement of the late 1800s, when workers came together to advocate for better working conditions, fair wages, reasonable working hours, and safer workplaces. Over time, the holiday became a national tradition and an opportunity to recognize the important role workers play in building and strengthening our communities. At McKenna Property Management, we see the value of hard work every day. Just because you’re renting doesn’t mean your home has to feel temporary. You don’t need to make major changes to make a space feel more like you—a few renter-friendly upgrades can make a surprisingly big difference. Start with the walls. Artwork, framed photos, mirrors, or a gallery wall can instantly add personality. If you’re worried about damage, consult with your property manager about what they recommend using to hang items from the wall. Bring in some color. Add throw pillows, blankets, rugs, curtains, or even a colorful piece of furniture. These are easy to switch out and can completely change the feel of a room without touching the walls. Upgrade the lighting. Swap out boring lamps for something that fits your style, or add floor and table lamps for a warmer, cozier feel. Even changing the light bulbs to a warmer tone can make a room feel more inviting. Make it yours with the little things. Plants, books, candles, decorative trays, and your favorite everyday items can make a rental feel personal instead of like a place you’re just passing through. The best part? When it’s time to move, you can take most of it with you. Your rental may not be your forever home, but it can still feel like home while you’re there.
Halloween is just around the corner, and we are getting ready for one of our favorite traditions of the year—our Annual Boo Bash! Looking for a fun, educational activity right here in Las Vegas? The Las Vegas Science & Natural History Museum is a great place to explore science, nature, and history—all under one roof. National Dog Day is August 26th , and we’re celebrating our favorite four-legged residents! 🐶 National Dog Day is celebrated every year to recognize the unconditional love, companionship, and joy that dogs bring into our lives. It’s also a day to celebrate dogs of all breeds and backgrounds while raising awareness about the importance of giving our furry friends happy, healthy, and loving homes. Bring your pup by the McKenna Property Management office during regular office hours on August 26th for a special pup cup on us! It’s the perfect excuse to give your furry friend a little extra love (and a tasty treat). We know our office may have several pups stopping by throughout the day, so please make sure all dogs are kept on a leash while visiting. This helps us keep everyone safe and comfortable. Things are about to get very spicy around McKenna Property Management—and we're doing it for a good cause! We're so excited for Feel the Burn (For Good) , a campaign where one very brave member of our team will take on the ultimate hot sauce challenge inspired by Hot Ones. The goal? To raise money for a charity chosen by one of our own team members. Here's how it works: We'll spin a wheel to randomly select one team member who will have to take on the challenge. From there, they'll work their way through a lineup of increasingly spicy wings, with the heat eventually reaching an 11/10 spice level. Yes, you read that right. We're not sure what happens after 10, but apparently, we're about to find out. Once our brave teammate makes it through the challenge, McKenna Property Management will donate $200 to a charity of their choice! Will there be sweating? Probably. Will there be tears? We can't rule it out. Will someone question every life decision that led them to this moment? Almost certainly. But it'll all be worth it for a good cause! Las Vegas is about to add another major league attraction to its growing list of world-class sports venues. The new home of the Athletics is currently under construction on the former Tropicana site along the Las Vegas Strip and is expected to open in time for the 2028 MLB season . Construction is progressing on schedule, with the stadium already taking shape. The 33,000-seat, climate-controlled ballpark will become the permanent home of the Athletics, who are playing temporarily in Sacramento until the move to Las Vegas is complete. The modern design is built with our desert climate in mind, allowing fans to enjoy baseball comfortably, even during the hottest months. But this won't be a stadium that's only busy during baseball season. Plans include concerts, festivals, community events, and other major entertainment throughout the year, making it another destination for both locals and visitors. The stadium will also be part of a larger entertainment district that includes a new resort and casino, creating an exciting new hub on the Strip. The arrival of Major League Baseball is expected to bring thousands of visitors, create jobs, boost local businesses, and continue transforming Las Vegas into one of the nation's premier sports cities. Between the Raiders, Golden Knights, Aces, Formula 1, and now Major League Baseball, it's clear that Las Vegas is no longer just the Entertainment Capital of the World—it's becoming one of the biggest sports destinations as well.
If you've been watching this season of Love Island USA, you've probably laughed at least once over the contestants' vocabulary. Jen gave us "com-promise" instead of compromise. Sincere wanted to "emerge" himself in a relationship instead of immerse himself. He also called someone a "ball of fresh air" instead of a breath of fresh air, and pronounced epitome as "epi-tome." The internet had a field day. It's easy to laugh—and honestly, some of those moments were pretty funny—but they also highlight something bigger. Reading and learning matter. We live in a world where more people get their information from 30-second videos than from books, articles, or long-form conversations. According to literacy research, many adults in the United States read at about a 6th- to 8th-grade level, and a significant portion struggle with reading beyond everyday materials. That's not meant to shame anyone. It's actually the opposite. Reading is a skill. Like going to the gym or learning a language, it gets stronger the more you use it. And it's never too late to improve. One of the best investments you'll ever make isn't in the stock market—it's in your own mind. Whether it's reading a few pages of a book, listening to a podcast, watching an educational documentary, or learning a new skill, making a habit of learning something every day pays dividends for the rest of your life. Reading Builds More Than Vocabulary Sure, reading expands your vocabulary, improves your writing, and helps you communicate more clearly.But perhaps its greatest benefit is something we desperately need more of today: critical thinking. Critical thinking is the ability to evaluate information instead of simply accepting it. It means asking questions, considering different perspectives, recognizing bias, and looking for evidence before forming an opinion. In a world filled with social media, AI-generated content, clickbait headlines, and misinformation, knowing how to think is often more valuable than simply knowing facts. Small Habits Create Big Results You don't need to finish a book every week. Read one chapter. Listen to one podcast. Watch one educational video. Learn one new word. Ask one thoughtful question. Those small habits compound over time. Learn one new thing every day, and by the end of the year you'll have added 365 new ideas to your life. Over five years, that's more than 1,800 opportunities to become a better communicator, a sharper thinker, and a more informed decision-maker. Never Stop Being Curious Curiosity is one of the few investments that always pays off. The people who continue learning aren't the ones who know everything—they're the ones who never stop asking questions. So laugh at the Love Island vocabulary moments. We all did. Then pick up a book. Your vocabulary will improve. Your communication will improve. Most importantly, your ability to think critically—to question, analyze, and make better decisions—will improve too. And that's something worth immersing yourself in.
